Who We Are and Who We Serve

Welcome to the National Capital Area Chapter of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals. Our chapter got started in 1992, and our members are the leading capture and proposal management professionals working in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Our membership shares a common interest in learning the best approaches to winning government and commercial business.

Today APMP-NCA has almost 600 members, and throughout its history has repeatedly won the Everest Award for outstanding chapter of the year from APMP.

Our individual members generally fall into one of these broad categories:

  • Industry: Company employees
  • Consultants: Those who provide intellectual capital and knowledge-based services
  • Vendors: Those who provide related products and services
  • Associations: Members and staff of industry associations
  • Government: Government procurement personnel

And center on these professional interest areas:

  • Acquisition and Procurement
  • Business Development
  • Competitive Intelligence
  • Proposal Development
  • Proposal Production
  • Competitive Pricing
  • Contract Negotiation
  • Oral Briefings and Presentations
  • Project Management
  • Program Management

What We Stand For

As the largest chapter of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals we share and support our parent association’s mission:

“…To advance the arts, sciences, and technology of new business acquisition and to promote the professionalism of those engaged in those pursuits.”

The NCA Chapter is committed to the idea that the most exciting challenges in proposals require insights from many disciplines. The NCA chapter encourages participation by a wide range of talent and experience, with members nurturing new ideas and techniques.

How We Serve our Members

Our chapter holds seven events every year. Every other month, our Roundtable dinner meetings feature a timely topic presented by an expert in the field. Some of our most recent topics included hot issues in federal government acquisition such as Earned Value Management and Performance Based Contracting. Other presentations reviewed the best work habits for capture and proposal managers and the latest technology available for business development.

Every fall we put on our biggest event of the year—Professional Day, This full day networking and education event focuses on the latest trends and techniques presented by respected business development professionals. Participants are also encouraged to stop and take time to look back at their accomplishments and focus on their own career goals during the Professional Day experience.

We also publish the Executive Summary, our quarterly electronic newsletter. It keeps our members up-to-date on chapter news and the latest proposal intelligence in articles authored by our members. Back issues of Executive Summary and summaries of our recent education presentations are in the Knowledge Resources section of our web site.

And an increasing popular service is our Job Bank—where job seekers and employers find each other for mutually-benefiting relationships.

If you are currently an APMP member and would like to join our chapter—at no additional charge—contact APMP National via email at apmpmemserv@msn.com. Just let them know you’d like to affiliate with the NCA Chapter.

How Our Volunteer Leadership Serves You

The APMP-NCA Board of Directors is the governing body of the chapter—which is totally run by volunteers. Members of the board engage other volunteers in producing the programs and services that create value for our members.

The Board of Directors usually meet on the first Tuesday of each month, alternating between face-to-face and teleconferences. All board meetings are open to members. Contact chapter president, Michael Scruggs at mscruggs@apmpnca.org if you’d like to attend an upcoming meeting.
